Elisa Aaltonen (b. 1992) is a graduate from Time and Space Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki. Aaltonen also holds a master’s degree in theology at The University of Helsinki where she mojored in dogmatics. Her master’s thesis is on the transgressive nature of the incarnation of God. In her artistic practice Aaltonen examines the religious experience. Her works question the structures of religion, authority and personal faith. Throughout her work there is a preoccupation with the duality of the sacred and the profane.
